We offer a service to look after your bonsai(s) during your holiday, feeding and watering as required. This costs £1.00 per week per tree. For several trees, please ask for a price.
Most outdoor bonsai need to be positioned in a sunny, slightly sheltered site, but do not like to be placed in extreme, full sun.
Most indoor bonsai again like sunny situations, out of the full sun, and prefer to be kept away from a direct heat source, i.e. radiator. They should, ideally, be turned at least once a week to ensure they grow into evenly balanced specimens. These trees are quite happy to sit in the conservatory during the summer months.
Watering is the most important factor of growing bonsai. The tree should be checked and watered daily in the summer and occasionally in winter. It is imperative that your tree is not allowed to dry out completely but also that it is not overwatered.
Feed with a specialised bonsai feed throughout the growing season. The frequency of feeding is dependent on the type of feed used, all of which will carry instructions on how much to use and how often to use it.
Most trees need pruning all year round, especially in the summer months. You do this by either using bonsai tools or pinching the shoots out by hand.
Aluminum bonsai wire can also be applied to positions branches as desired.
It can take anywhere between 1 and 5 years, depending on size and type of tree, before the roots will become pot bound and require root pruning.
This is done by combing out the roots, trimming approximately one third of the root mass and then repotting the tree, either into the original pot or new one. Make sure the tree is watered well.
If you would like more specific, hands on advice, please feel free to bring your tree(s) to the nursery and we will be happy to discuss any problems with you
