Buying a Bonsai for Christmas – Everything You Need to Know
If you’re looking to buy a bonsai for Christmas, you might have a lot of questions in mind, from when to place your order or which tree to choose to how to look after it until the big day. To help you with choosing the best bonsai Christmas gift, we have answered some of the common questions we get in regards to buying a bonsai tree for the holiday season.

Q: When is the latest I can place an order to ensure my tree arrives before Christmas?
To make sure you receive your tree in time for Christmas, we would advise placing your order by noon on the 21st December. As the holiday season is a very busy time for us we would need time to prepare and ship out all orders.
Orders placed after this date and time will be processed in the first week in the new year.
Q: Will the tree be okay in the box or do I need to take it out?
Please open the box and take the tree out as soon as you receive it. To make sure the bonsai’s leaves stay nice and fresh, keep it in a bright spot, near a south facing window, porch or conservatory for example, and away from central heating. If you’re buying a Chinese Elm or Podocarpus or another outdoor bonsai tree, you can keep it in the garden provided the weather isn’t too frosty.
Depending on how close to Christmas you place your order, you might also need to water the bonsai you’re gifting. Check the soil’s moisture level with the tip of your finger and make sure it’s evenly damp. If the soil feels dry give the bonsai some water to make sure it doesn’t wilt before you have to give it.
Q: Can I order a bonsai Christmas gift directly to the recipient?
Yes, that’s no problem at all. When placing your order you can select the option for it to be delivered to a different address, where you can then put in the address and name of the recipient. There is also space for you to include any delivery notes or special requirements.

Q: I want to get a beginners bonsai for Christmas, but don’t know which one is best. What’s your recommendation?
One of the most popular bonsai trees for beginners is our Chinese Elm bonsai. This beautiful bonsai is available on its own or as a gift set with a bottle of Pokon bonsai feed and scissors.
Another bonsai tree suitable for absolute beginners is our Carmona tree. This is an indoor bonsai which will look stunning on your windowsill and blossoms with beautiful white flowers in spring.
A Podocarpus bonsai tree is also an outstanding choice for a beginner bonsai enthusiast. Although it’s an evergreen, this tree can be kept indoors as well as outdoors and as far as bonsai trees go requires low maintenance.
If you’re stuck for choice, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We will be happy to help you find the perfect tree and advise on any questions you may have regarding maintenance or care.
Q: Where is the best place for a bonsai tree?
Indoor bonsai trees are best kept in a sunny spot of the house, potentially near a window. You have to be wary of cold drafts coming from windows and doors as well as heat coming from any radiators, log burners or other heaters. Those can dry out your tree and affect its health.
Outdoor bonsai can be kept in your garden for most of the year, however, if the weather is particularly cold you can bring them indoors. If your home has a conservatory then this is the perfect space to keep your tree during the coldest months of the year.
Q: Can I come pick up a bonsai tree in person from your nursery?
If you would prefer to visit us in person in our bonsai nursery in Lutterworth, you are more than welcome to come and pick out a bonsai for Christmas. We are open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, Saturday – 9am to 5pm and Sunday – 12pm-4pm.
